Washington Literacy Council Shines A Light On Our Community

Washtington Literacy Council

Washington Literacy Council celebrated the success of their students, teachers and community on Thursday evening.

There were wonderful stories of homeless people who found Washington Literacy Center and were encouraged by their volunteer teachers to persevere.

Andrea Roane was a fabulous emcee, who exuded professionalism and charm.

Community business leaders were recognized for their initiative and tremendous examples of promoting a more literate community.

Mr. Anas “Andy” Shallal and Mr. W. Christopher Smith as Workforce Champions. Mr. Shallal and Mr. Smith were honored for their efforts to improve education and employment skills for District of Columbia adults.  Ad2DC received the 2015 Community Partner Award for their pro bono work to create a marketing campaign for the WLC.

Congressman Clyburn gave an inspirational speech about the importance of promoting literacy.  It is clear that he values literacy and understands that there is still a population, which needs to be served.

We applaud the efforts of Washington Literacy Council, Ms. Mary T. Algire (Terry) and everyone who works to make this organization a success.
